Dr. Sarah Toler is a Certified Nurse Midwife and Doctor of Nursing Practice in Los Angeles. She is a graduate of Baylor University Louise Herrington School of Nursing and completed her nurse midwife residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, before practicing at Lovers Lane Birth Center in Dallas. Dr. Toler specializes in women’s mental health, particularly perinatal and postpartum mood disorders including depression, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. She also focuses on other reproductive mood disorders, including perimenopausal depression, premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Sarah’s professional intention is to improve access to behavioral health care for all underserved populations, especially women and girls. Evidence-based care drives her practice and philosophy, along with compassion and empathy for human struggles.

Dr. Toler is an advocate for perinatal mental health and an active champion for Postpartum Support International and 2020 Mom. Her doctorate answered questions regarding the gaps in postpartum mental health services. She is also a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives. Together with the American Association of Birth Centers, she implemented a quality improvement program that provided access to screening and treatment referral for postpartum anxiety for women across the United States.

Before becoming a midwife and women’s health advocate, Sarah was a copywriter, content creator and creative director at several Dallas and New York-based advertising agencies. It was while creating content for the brands Tampax and Always that she discovered her love for bringing health and wellness solutions to women in need.

In addition to her work with perinatal mental health, Sarah is devoted to working with those living with substance use disorders, addictions, gender differences, trauma disorders, and significant transitions. She has received postgraduate training on working with transgender pregnant and parenting people and women living with HIV. She actively advocates to build postpartum support communities for all families and offers perinatal and postpartum consulting services to women at risk for postpartum mood disorders.
